28.11.2015. PSI/ESPU/ILO regional roundtable meeting on labor migration, Yerevan, 2015   

  On November 24-25 Public Service International (PSI), European Public Service Unions (EPSU) and International Labor Organization (ILO) jointly organized a regional roundtable meeting at Ani Plaza Hotel in Yerevan, Armenia.

  Around 25 participants from France, Belgium, Sweden, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Georgia, Russia,  Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Moldova and Armenia took part in meeting from various public service unions.

 Gayane Armaghanova, the president of medical workers’ union, Anahit Asatryan, the president of state, municipal and public service workers’ union, Seda Harutyunyan, the president of communal service workers’ union, Zhanetta Torosyan, the president of culture and media worker’s union were among the Armenian delegation.

 PSI general secretary Rosa Pavanelli welcomed participants, providing an outlook for today’s situation in public services and migration. Public servants are standing on frontline, and it is the highest priority to provide comfortable, decent conditions for them without stress. The privatization, outsourcing and many other challenges are among the main problems public service sector is facing these days.


 One of the hottest topic during discussion was migrates flow into the Europe. Participants shared their views and experiences on the issue.

 Anahit Asatryan, the president of Armenian national union of state, municipal and public service workers spotted the 16 thousands Syrian-Armenian refugees, that found their home in Armenia since 2011, and support to them is not only limited what is Armenian government does. Anahit mentioned, that Armenia receives migrants from other countries as well, and assured that Europe can handle today difficulties.

 Rosa Pavanelli summarized the discussion, saying, that Europe should follow Armenia’s example, andf if small 3-million-population country can receive 16.000 migrants, then why big and strong Europe can’t do the same, say, to give shelters to one million refugees.

 Anahit Asatryan also noted, that in state and local self-government of Armenia, heads of such organizations often violate trade union rights, and suggested that informational and educational work should be carried out among the heads of state and self-governments, to develop social partnership.
